Jackie Nickerson’s photographic documentation of African agriculture and the quiet majesty of its farmers are stark and unsentimental – capturing the random beauty of their haphazard, survivalist draping. It’s spontaneous and organic elegance; one that Christian Wijnants embraces for Spring Summer 2024. The poetic collection vibrates with the contrasts of natural and organic forms.

Prints are faded, seemingly washed away by the sun. Florals are printed on denim and linen, silk charmeuse and fluid jersey. Desert inspired prints evoke the sand dunes blurred by the heat; in contrast with organic prints inspired by the reflections of the sea. Transmitting the hot, de-saturated colours of the sky and savannah, the lush palette blends pale blues through coral, emerald green, navy and nude tones cooling off to stark monochrome. Hand painted desert flowers are silk painted and printed across jersey and gathered shorts.

A striped motif adds skewed geometry in asymmetric dresses and light ottoman knitwear. Raffia fringed knitwear introduces lustre and crisp shine with a very contrasting effect. Loose, soft short sleeves shirts are cut in bleached jeans, printed denim and floral linen, styled with a loose bermuda to add a masculine touch.
